Car Makers Are Getting Greener
With Better Hybrid Electric Cars
If there’s one admirable and positive international movement
that Mother Earth should be happy about, it has to be
people’s increased awareness on their responsibilities for
saving the environment. The green movement has indeed spread around the
world and has prompted many sectors of society to do their share in
preserving the ecosystem and its natural resources.
The automotive industry is doing its own thing with regards to eco
friendly efforts. Its answer to the call of the green movement is
manufacture of hybrid electric cars which makes use of renewable
energy. These cars operate on an alternate source of energy which is
electricity through rechargeable batteries.

If the battery may not be available for use, hybrid cars can run on
ethanol alcohol or plant fuel as well as gasoline or diesel. Some
people may doubt their capabilities but these hybrid electric cars are
as efficient and affordable as the regular automobiles.
So, give me
just one good reason why I should consider a hybrid.
There are several good reasons
why car owners should consider getting a hybrid car for their personal
use. On top of the list is its environment friendly feature. Since it
runs on electricity, there’s no carbon emission to worry
about. Air pollution is thereby cut by about 90 percent.
Secondly, this car can let you enjoy big savings even in the long term
compared to the gasoline-run cars. Additionally, it can use gasoline,
petrol or diesel as an alternate fuel but most of the time, having this
type of car makes one less dependent on fossil fuel which is one of the
main causes of the degradation of our environment. Finally, people who
use hybrid electric cars stand to benefit from tax breaks offered by
some states.
Initially, one has to spend more in purchasing a hybrid car compared to
buying a regular car. The big advantage, though, is that the owner can
gain more than enough savings in the long run because of the use of
alternate fuel which is more affordable and the less maintenance
required. Hybrid electric cars may need only changes of their battery
system’s air filter every 40,000 miles covered. Their brake
pads are also more durable due to the existence of regenerative braking
and their engines are not likely to experience much wear and tear.
This so-called regenerative
braking is what contributes to the hybrid
car’s need for less maintenance. While the battery of a
regular
electric car needs periodic plugging to keep it in running condition, a
hybrid electric car’s battery continues to get its energy
source
through regenerative braking. In fact, the battery does not require
replacement so long as it is kept charged between 40 percent and 60
percent of its full capacity. In this way, it is always in good running
condition.
When did car
makers suddenly decide we needed hybrid electric cars?
Hybrid cars originated way back in the 19th century. A patent for a
powertrain that featured a gasoline engine-electric motor was filed by
a certain Mr. H. Piper in 1905. Piper believed that a vehicle can
accelerate faster up to 25 miles per hour in just 10 seconds with the
use of an electric motor in combination with a gasoline engine. Since
that time, hybrid cars were on and off the market. It was only later in
1997 that they made a successful comeback through Japan’s
Toyota Prius. The Prius was introduced in the U.S. three years after in
2000.
